Lahore, December 7, 2024 – The Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) has raised alarm over the escalating frequency of cyberattacks, which are wreaking havoc on businesses and the economy. LCCI officials stressed the urgent need for a robust cybersecurity framework to safeguard digital platforms.
LCCI President Mian Abuzar Shad, Senior Vice President Engineer Khalid Usman, and Vice President Shahid Nazir Chaudhry voiced grave concerns over the growing cyber threats. They emphasized that these attacks pose significant risks, including financial losses, data breaches, and reputational damage to businesses and individuals alike.
Mian Abuzar Shad highlighted the critical consequences of unchecked cyberattacks, stating, “Digital platforms are essential for modern commerce, but their vulnerabilities are being exploited by hackers, eroding trust and causing immense financial harm. Authorities must act decisively to apprehend and penalize cybercriminals while strengthening preventive measures.”
Engineer Khalid Usman underscored the indispensable role of secure digital communication in today’s business environment. “Businesses increasingly depend on digital platforms, making them prime targets for hackers. A single breach can devastate operations and credibility. Comprehensive cybersecurity measures are no longer optional but essential,” he remarked. Usman also called on the government to introduce robust policies to shield digital infrastructure.
Vice President Shahid Nazir Chaudhry emphasized the importance of collaboration between law enforcement agencies and cybersecurity experts to tackle this rising threat. He urged businesses and individuals to remain vigilant and prioritize online safety. “Awareness campaigns are crucial in educating users about the risks and preventive measures,” he noted, adding that such efforts could significantly reduce the prevalence of cybercrime.
The LCCI leaders urged the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) and other relevant authorities to intensify efforts in combating cybercrime. They also called for initiatives to educate the public about securing personal and business accounts against digital threats.
The LCCI reaffirmed its commitment to fostering a secure digital environment, emphasizing that protecting businesses from cyberattacks is vital for sustaining economic growth and encouraging innovation in Pakistan.
