Tom Cruise has long been known for fully immersing himself in his roles, and his upcoming film Digger is no exception. According to co-star Riz Ahmed, witnessing Cruise in action on set was an unforgettable experience that left him both inspired and stunned.
In a recent interview with Collider, Ahmed opened up about working alongside Cruise, who plays Digger Rockwall in the comedy-drama. The Oscar-nominated actor described Cruise’s on-set presence as unlike anything he had encountered before.
“Honestly, there’s nothing like that experience I’ve ever had before,” Ahmed said. “Just because of how motivated, focused, hardworking, and inspiring Tom Cruise is on set. The energy he has and the positivity is amazing. It’s like nothing I’ve ever seen before.”
Ahmed also praised director Alejandro for his ambition and meticulous approach to filmmaking, noting that each day on set felt extraordinary. “The attention to detail, the vision, the ambition—every day you’re just like, ‘Wow, this is kind of …,’” he added.
In addition, Ahmed shared his admiration for legendary cinematographer Emmanuel Lubezki, who serves as Digger’s director of photography. He revealed that Lubezki’s visual precision was so impressive it nearly pulled him out of character.
“He uses grays, and he doesn’t just have one kind of gray,” Ahmed explained. “He has like 10 or 16 different shades to create different nuances. The level of craft and attention to detail is [amazing].”
Calling the experience both inspiring and intense, Ahmed said the environment pushed everyone to deliver their best work.
Digger is scheduled to debut in cinemas on October 2, with anticipation building for Cruise’s latest performance.
