Rockstar Games has identified the PlayStation 5 as the preferred platform for playing Grand Theft Auto VI (GTA 6), as the studio ramps up marketing efforts ahead of the game’s highly anticipated launch later this year.
With GTA 6 pre-orders now live, Rockstar recently published promotional material for the game’s Ultimate Edition featuring a prominent “Plays Best on PS5” badge. The advertisement encourages players to pre-order the title on PlayStation 5 while highlighting exclusive content included with the premium edition.
The campaign has sparked widespread discussion among fans, many of whom are questioning what advantages the PlayStation 5 version will offer over other platforms.
While Rockstar has not detailed any exclusive gameplay features, Sony has promoted PlayStation 5 technologies such as DualSense wireless controller support and 3D Audio, both of which are expected to enhance the overall experience. However, these features are already common across many major PlayStation releases, leaving fans eager for more specific information.
The marketing move has also fuelled debate among Xbox users, as Microsoft is expected to showcase the capabilities of the Xbox Series X closer to launch. Industry observers believe competition between Sony and Microsoft will intensify as both companies attempt to position their consoles as the best place to experience Rockstar’s next blockbuster.
Speculation also continues to surround the PlayStation 5 Pro version of GTA 6. While reports have suggested the upgraded console could receive visual or performance enhancements, Rockstar has yet to confirm any PS5 Pro-specific features. More details are expected closer to the game’s release.
Rockstar’s latest marketing push comes after the company faced criticism over its decision to offer premium editions with additional content and reports that the physical edition will not include the complete game on disc.
The developer has also delayed GTA 6 multiple times, a move many analysts believe reflects Rockstar’s focus on delivering a polished launch experience across all supported platforms. With expectations at an all-time high, the studio appears determined to avoid the technical issues that have affected several recent blockbuster releases.
Grand Theft Auto VI is currently scheduled to launch in November for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. More information about platform-specific features is expected in the months leading up to release.
