Cristiano Ronaldo has officially become the first footballer to achieve billionaire status, according to the latest Bloomberg Billionaires Index, which estimates his net worth at an impressive $1.4 billion.
The 40-year-old Portugal captain’s financial success marks another milestone in a legendary career that continues to redefine football’s boundaries.
Ronaldo’s wealth has surged following his record-breaking contract with Saudi Arabian club Al-Nassr, signed in June, reportedly worth more than $400 million. Bloomberg reported that from 2002 to 2023, Ronaldo earned over $550 million in football salaries alone. His long-term partnership with Nike, valued at nearly $18 million annually, and endorsement deals with Armani, Castrol, and other global brands have added another $175 million to his growing fortune.
His 2023 move from Manchester United to Al-Nassr not only made him the highest-paid footballer in the world but also one of the most influential athletes globally. The deal includes an annual salary of £177 million ($237 million) plus bonuses and a 15 percent share in Al-Nassr’s revenue.
By reaching billionaire status, Ronaldo joins a select group of elite athletes such as Michael Jordan, Magic Johnson, LeBron James, Tiger Woods, and Roger Federer. Despite his immense wealth, the Portuguese star insists retirement is not on his mind.
“I still love the game,” Ronaldo said at the Portugal Football Globes gala. “I want to enjoy every match I have left. When I stop, I’ll know I gave everything.”
