Actor hints at returning as Marvel’s Merc with a Mouth while teasing untold comic storylines at Fanatics Festival.

Ryan Reynolds has confirmed that he is expected to return as Deadpool in another instalment of the popular Marvel franchise, offering fans their clearest indication yet that a fourth standalone film is in development.

The 49-year-old actor made the revelation during an appearance at the 2026 Fanatics Festival in New York City, where he spoke about the future of the character and the comic book stories he still hopes to bring to the screen.

“There are a few really deep cuts that I think are missing behind the movies,” Reynolds told the audience, referring to storylines from the original Deadpool comics.

He praised the work of several comic book writers who helped shape the character over the years, including Fabian Nicieza, who co-created Deadpool, and writer Gerry Duggan.

“I think a few deep cuts are missing from some of the comics. There’s certainly some stuff that I love that Fabian Nicieza wrote that is incredible. Gerry Duggan, who was a friend, was an incredible comic writer,” Reynolds said.

The actor then appeared to confirm another film featuring the popular anti-hero.

“There’s stuff upcoming. There’s eventually, you know, remotely another Deadpool film. It’s going to be great,” he added.

Reynolds did not reveal any details about the project’s storyline, cast or production schedule, and Marvel Studios has not officially announced a new Deadpool film.

The actor’s comments quickly generated excitement among fans, many of whom welcomed the prospect of seeing Reynolds reprise the role that has become synonymous with his career.

Reynolds has portrayed Wade Wilson for more than 15 years. After first appearing as the character in X-Men Origins: Wolverine (2009), he successfully rebooted the role with Deadpool (2016), followed by Deadpool 2 (2018).

His most recent appearance came in Deadpool & Wolverine (2024), which reunited him with longtime friend Hugh Jackman and became one of Marvel’s biggest box-office successes.

The Fanatics Festival also attracted several other high-profile celebrities, including Kevin Hart, Justin Bieber, Travis Scott, Jay-Z, Jason Sudeikis, Teyana Taylor and Spike Lee.

Although Marvel has yet to confirm a release date or officially announce the next Deadpool film, Reynolds’ latest comments strongly suggest that the franchise will continue with the actor once again leading the cast.
