Ryan Reynolds said the future of his popular anti-hero Deadpool may take a different direction within the Marvel Cinematic Universe, with the character likely to appear alongside other superheroes rather than leading another solo film.
In a recent interview, Reynolds said he has been rethinking where Deadpool fits next following the success of Deadpool & Wolverine, in which he starred alongside Hugh Jackman. The film marked Deadpool’s official entry into Marvel’s interconnected franchise and performed strongly at the global box office.
Reynolds suggested that Deadpool’s appeal may be better suited to ensemble settings. “He works best when he’s around others,” he said, noting that the character’s offbeat humor and outsider personality stand out more in team dynamics, even while he remains somewhat out of place.
Speculation has been growing about a possible appearance in future Marvel projects, including a rumored role in an upcoming Avengers installment, though no official confirmation has been made.
Despite the shift, Reynolds cautioned against placing the character too comfortably within large teams, saying it could dilute what makes Deadpool unique. His irreverent tone and tendency to break conventions have been central to the character’s success with audiences.
The actor did not provide a timeline for Deadpool’s next appearance but indicated that discussions are ongoing. For now, the character’s future in the Marvel universe remains open, though clearly evolving beyond the traditional standalone format that defined earlier films in the franchise.
