The actor mingled with fans disguised as a cosplayer before crashing Marvel Studios’ Hall H panel alongside Robert Downey Jr.

Ryan Reynolds surprised thousands of fans at San Diego Comic-Con 2026 by wandering the convention floor in disguise, blending in as an ordinary cosplayer before making an unexpected appearance during Marvel Studios’ Hall H presentation.

Instead of wearing Deadpool’s signature red-and-black costume, Reynolds opted for a casual grey denim outfit that allowed him to move freely through the packed convention without attracting attention.

The Hollywood star posed for selfies with attendees, many of whom believed he was simply another fan dressed as a comic book character. Without security guards, handlers or barriers surrounding him, Reynolds spent time interacting with convention-goers before later revealing the prank on social media.

Sharing behind-the-scenes footage of the undercover outing, Reynolds thanked fans for their continued support of the Deadpool franchise.

“No handlers, no security, no ropes. WHAT A GIFT,” Reynolds wrote. “Thanks to everyone I met, who aren’t only cosplaying but world-building.”

He also joked about meeting wrestling legend Sergeant Slaughter during the event.

The surprises did not end there. Reynolds later interrupted Marvel Studios’ Hall H presentation while Robert Downey Jr. was on stage, creating one of Comic-Con’s most memorable moments.

Downey Jr. greeted the unexpected guest with a humorous remark, asking, “Who’s this guy with the swords and stuff?”

Reynolds quickly fired back in classic Deadpool style, joking, “Long-time listener, first-time caller. This seems an awfully expensive way to announce a film. When do you start filming?”

The playful exchange drew loud cheers and laughter from the packed audience.

Reynolds’ Comic-Con appearance comes shortly after he confirmed that another Deadpool film is in development. Although he did not reveal any plot details or release timeline, the actor recently said that “eventually” another instalment in the popular Marvel franchise would happen.

Reynolds has portrayed Wade Wilson, also known as Deadpool, since first appearing as the character in X-Men Origins: Wolverine before leading the blockbuster Deadpool trilogy, including the record-breaking Deadpool & Wolverine released in 2024.
