The cricketing world braces for an exciting showdown as Pakistan and South Africa gear up for their much-anticipated Test series. The first Test is set to take place from December 26 to 30 at SuperSport Park, Centurion, followed by the second Test from January 3 to 7 at Newlands Cricket Stadium, Cape Town.
South Africa’s head coach, Shukri Conrad, has named a 16-player squad for this pivotal series, which also marks the conclusion of the ICC World Test Championship 2023-2025 cycle. South Africa currently leads the championship standings, making this series crucial for their ambitions to reach the final.
A highlight of the squad is the inclusion of Corbin Bosch, who earned his maiden Test call-up. The 30-year-old seamer has been in stellar form in domestic cricket, with an impressive tally of 72 wickets at an average of 36.75 in 34 matches. Bosch also boasts a batting average above 40, adding valuable depth to the Proteas lineup.
Joining Bosch is uncapped seamer Kwena Maphaka, retained from the squad for the second Test against Sri Lanka. Wiaan Mulder also returns as he completes his recovery from a fractured finger. However, Keshav Maharaj’s participation remains uncertain due to a groin strain sustained during the ODI series against Pakistan.
Commenting on the squad, coach Conrad expressed confidence in his team’s potential, highlighting the importance of the series. “This is an exciting opportunity as we chase a spot in the World Test Championship Final,” said Conrad. “Pakistan brings a formidable pace attack, and we anticipate a thrilling contest. Our squad has the depth and skill to rise to the challenge.”
Pakistan, known for producing exceptional fast bowlers, will be aiming to disrupt South Africa’s plans with their fiery pace attack and resilient batting lineup.
