Washington, September 7, 2025 – World No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka once again showed her dominance on the biggest stage, successfully defending her US Open women’s singles title with a commanding 6-3, 7-6 (3) victory over American Amanda Anisimova in Saturday’s final.

The triumph marked the fourth Grand Slam singles title for Sabalenka, who at 27 years old has firmly established herself among the elite of women’s tennis. She also became the first woman to defend the US Open since Serena Williams, who famously won three consecutive titles between 2012 and 2014.

The Belarusian star started strong, breaking Anisimova early to take the first set 6-3. However, the second set was far more competitive, with the home favorite pushing the match into a tense tie-breaker. This time, Sabalenka held her nerve, drawing on the painful experiences of losing in the finals of both the Australian Open and French Open earlier this season.

Speaking after the match, Sabalenka reflected on her journey: “Because of the losses earlier this year, this final carried a different weight. I knew I had worked hard and deserved to end the season with a Grand Slam trophy. Managing my emotions was key, and I’m incredibly proud of myself.”

For Anisimova, it was another bittersweet moment. The 24-year-old reached the finals at both Wimbledon and the US Open this year but could not convert either into a title. Her 29 unforced errors on Saturday proved costly. “I wasn’t playing my best tennis today. Finals bring nerves, and I need to keep improving in those situations,” she admitted.

In doubles action earlier in the day, Spain’s Marcel Granollers and Argentina’s Horacio Zeballos rallied past Britain’s Joe Salisbury and Neal Skupski 3-6, 7-6 (4), 7-5 to secure the men’s doubles championship.
