Sabrina Carpenter returned to the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival on Friday as a headliner, two years after telling fans she would one day take the top billing spot, delivering a theatrical performance built around a staged “cinematic” pop universe.
Carpenter opened her set with a pre-recorded noir-style introduction featuring actor Sam Elliott as a fictional police officer, before appearing on stage to launch into “House Tour.” The performance quickly shifted into a high-energy sequence of hits including “Taste,” “Busy Woman,” and “Manchild,” supported by elaborate choreography and stage design.
The production leaned heavily into a Hollywood-inspired theme, with a glowing “Sabrinawood” sign dominating the stage backdrop. Carpenter told the audience mid-show, “Welcome to Sabrinawood… I can’t believe I’m headlining Coachella,” referencing a comment she made during a previous festival appearance.
The set mixed music with theatrical interludes, moving through stylized scenes resembling a recording studio, dive bar and Broadway-style finale. Guest appearances from actors Susan Sarandon and Will Ferrell added to the staged narrative elements of the show.
Carpenter also debuted a new track, “We Almost Broke Up Last Night,” as part of her evolving live set list, before closing the performance with “Espresso” and “Tears,” the latter performed while elevated on a rising platform.
The show marked one of the most high-profile slots of the festival weekend, with Carpenter emphasizing her recent catalogue while blending storytelling and pop performance. The headlining set concluded with Carpenter exiting the stage to strong audience response, cementing her position among the festival’s top-billed acts.
Festival organizers said the performance reflected Coachella’s continued emphasis on large-scale, narrative-driven live productions combining music, film-style visuals and theatrical staging.
