Sabrina Carpenter to Star and Produce Universal’s Alice Musical

Entertainment World

Pop superstar Sabrina Carpenter is taking a major leap from music to movies as she partners with Universal Pictures to star in and produce a new Alice in Wonderland-inspired musical film, marking her first leading role in a major studio project.

The 26-year-old Espresso hitmaker and multi-Grammy-nominated artist has officially signed a deal with Universal, expanding her creative footprint into film production. The upcoming project, currently untitled, will be written by Lorene Scafaria, the DGA Award-winning filmmaker known for Succession and Hustlers. Scafaria, a two-time Emmy nominee, will also direct the feature film.

The production will be handled by Marc Platt Productions, the Universal-based company behind recent hits including Wicked: For Good, released on November 21.

While story details remain tightly under wraps, sources describe the film as a modern, musical reimagining of Alice in Wonderland, blending Carpenter’s powerhouse vocals and acting talents in a fantasy-driven setting.

The announcement follows a remarkable year for Carpenter, who recently earned six Grammy nominations for her seventh studio album Man’s Best Friend. She is currently performing worldwide on her Short n Sweet Tour, supporting her albums Short n Sweet and Man’s Best Friend.

Carpenter first rose to fame as Maya Hart on Disney Channel’s Girl Meets World before starring in Adventures in Babysitting, Tall Girl, Clouds, The Hate U Give, and Emergency. Most recently, she joined a Disney+ Muppets special as a guest star.

With this new Universal musical, Sabrina Carpenter continues to evolve as one of the most versatile young stars in Hollywood—balancing global music success with a rapidly growing acting career.
