Saim Ayub is poised to make a daring debut in Test cricket for Pakistan during their upcoming tour of Australia in the ongoing ICC World Test Championship series next month.

The 21-year-old, who has demonstrated his skills in eight T20I matches this year and delivered stellar performances for Karachi Whites in the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy, has secured a spot in the 18-player squad for the series.

Although Ayub is yet to step into the Test arena, he remains resolute, expressing his commitment to maintaining an assertive and fearless approach on the international stage.

While acknowledging the need to adapt to diverse conditions and show respect to formidable bowlers, Ayub highlighted the importance of adjusting strategies based on the flow of the game.

Confident in his abilities as a left-handed batsman, Ayub remarked, “Having a fearless approach doesn’t mean that you always have to hit the ball hard. Some sessions have to be played with a run-rate of three, some with that of five. As far as expectations are concerned, I am looking forward to the opportunity of playing for Pakistan and winning matches for the team.”

Competing in Pakistan’s top order, Ayub faces challenges from regular openers Abdullah Shafique and Imam-ul-Haq, alongside new skipper Shan Masood and former captain Babar Azam.

However, Ayub will showcase his skills in a four-day contest against an Australian Prime Minister’s XI from December 6, leading up to the first Test in Perth on December 14.

Despite Pakistan’s historical struggles in Test matches in Australia, Ayub eagerly anticipates the challenge, emphasizing the personal and team development that comes with pushing oneself out of the comfort zone.

He views the upcoming series as an exciting opportunity, stating, “Players decide for themselves if they want to look at conditions as easy or difficult. What’s more important is the clarity of thought and being fearless with your approach.”

As Pakistan aim to maintain an unbeaten record in the current World Test Championship cycle, Ayub’s fearless approach and determination add an extra layer of excitement to the upcoming series against Australia.
