Sajid Khan Ruled Out of England Tour Due to Thumb Injury

PCB

Pakistan off-spinner Sajid Khan has been officially ruled out of the Pakistan Shaheens’ tour of England after sustaining a right thumb fracture during a training session at Tonbridge School Ground in Kent.

The injury comes as a significant blow to the team ahead of their first one-day match against the Professional County Club Select XI, scheduled to take place later today at the Kent County Cricket Ground in Beckenham.

Sajid, who was expected to play a key role in the three-match one-day series, suffered the injury while practicing with the team and was immediately assessed by medical staff.

Following the medical evaluation, it was confirmed that the spinner had fractured his right thumb and would be unfit to participate in the remaining matches of the tour.

Sajid Khan is now set to fly back to Pakistan on the earliest available flight and will undergo further treatment at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Lahore.

Despite the setback, the team management has decided not to name a replacement for Sajid, indicating confidence in the current squad’s depth and versatility to adjust to the sudden change.

Sajid Khan’s absence will be felt strongly by the Pakistan Shaheens, particularly given his valuable experience in red-ball cricket and his consistent performances in domestic and international formats.

Known for his control, spin, and ability to pick up key wickets, his role was expected to provide balance to the bowling attack during the tour.

The Pakistan Shaheens’ tour of England is an important part of the development program for emerging and fringe national players, allowing them to gain experience in challenging foreign conditions.

The current series against county-level opposition serves as both preparation and exposure for potential future national team candidates.

As the first match kicks off today, all eyes will be on how the remaining squad members step up in the absence of the seasoned off-spinner. The team will be aiming to start the series on a strong note despite the unexpected blow.
