The popular Google Chrome browser dominates the global market with an estimated 3.83 billion monthly active users. It holds nearly 68–69% share on mobile devices and about 89% usage on Android smartphones.
Despite this dominance, alternatives such as Samsung Internet Browser continue to attract a large number of users thanks to their customization options and unique features.
Developed by Samsung Electronics, the browser comes pre-installed on all Galaxy smartphones and tablets. It is also available for download on the Google Play Store, allowing non-Galaxy users to install it as well.
According to recent reports, Samsung is preparing several major improvements for its browser with the upcoming One UI 9 software update. These updates are expected to introduce multitasking tools, AI integration, and new cross-device features designed to improve browsing productivity.
Multi-Window Browsing Experience
One of the biggest additions is a multi-window browsing feature. This option will allow users to open multiple browser windows simultaneously and view two websites at the same time using split-screen functionality.
Instead of switching between multiple tabs, users will be able to monitor two active pages side by side. On larger devices, such as the upcoming Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7, the browser could even support three active windows running simultaneously.
This feature will significantly enhance multitasking, particularly for users who research, read articles, or compare information across multiple websites.
New “Ask AI” Feature
Another upcoming addition is the “Ask AI” feature, reportedly powered by Perplexity AI. The AI assistant is designed to analyze the content a user is browsing and provide answers, insights, and suggestions based on that information.
Unlike simple on-screen text recognition, the feature is believed to integrate directly with the browser, allowing it to access browsing data and potentially browsing history. Samsung appears to include controls that allow users to manage how long activity data is stored.
Cross-Device Browsing
Developers have also discovered a new “Enable Cross Device Resume” toggle in a leaked version of Samsung Browser. While the feature is not yet functional, it may allow users to instantly continue a browsing session across multiple devices.
The One UI 9 beta program is expected to begin in May, first arriving on the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S26 series before expanding to older models. The software will likely launch publicly later in the year alongside Samsung’s next foldable phones, including the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 8.
