Samsung is planning to diversify its artificial intelligence (AI) offerings for upcoming smartphones, signaling a possible shift from its current reliance on Google’s Gemini.
The company’s Galaxy AI suite, introduced with the Galaxy S24 series, has grown steadily, and new developments suggest that Samsung is exploring partnerships with alternative AI providers.
Choi Won-Joon, President and COO of Samsung’s mobile division, confirmed in an interview with Reuters that the company is currently in talks with several AI vendors, including OpenAI and Perplexity. “We’re talking to multiple vendors. As long as these AI agents are competitive and can provide the best user experiences, we are open to any AI agent out there,” Choi stated.
Samsung is reportedly nearing a deal to invest in Perplexity, aiming to integrate its app and AI assistant into future Galaxy devices—likely beginning with the Galaxy S26 lineup. Although discussions with OpenAI are ongoing, there is no investment expected from Samsung’s side.
This move aligns with Samsung’s broader strategy to enhance user experiences through diversified AI solutions, reducing overdependence on a single provider like Google. The integration of multiple AI agents could potentially offer users more robust and personalized features.
In addition to AI collaborations, Samsung is currently evaluating two major chipset options for the Galaxy S26 series: Qualcomm’s upcoming Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 (expected to be branded as Snapdragon 8 Elite 2) and its in-house Exynos 2600. A final decision on the processor hasn’t been confirmed yet, but the choice will likely reflect the best balance of performance and AI capabilities.
Choi also welcomed Apple’s rumored entry into the foldable smartphone market, suggesting it could help expand the overall ecosystem. Samsung currently leads the foldable segment and views Apple’s potential involvement as a positive push for industry-wide innovation.
With the Galaxy S26 series set to launch next year, Samsung appears committed to evolving its AI offerings, expanding partnerships, and delivering enhanced mobile experiences to users worldwide.
