Samsung appears to be making steady progress with the rollout of its latest Android-based software, One UI 8, which is built on Android 16.
While the Galaxy S25 series has already started receiving the update through Samsung’s beta program in select markets, mid-range devices like the Galaxy A55 are also beginning to show signs of inclusion in the near future.
The Galaxy A55, identified by model number SM-A556E, has been spotted on the benchmarking platform Geekbench running Android 16. This strongly suggests that Samsung has begun testing One UI 8 for this device, which is powered by the in-house Exynos 1480 chipset.
Although Samsung has not officially confirmed the release timeline, this Geekbench appearance indicates that the company could be gearing up to launch the One UI 8 beta program for the Galaxy A55 in the coming months. If all goes as expected, users may see the stable version of the software by the end of 2025.
Currently, the Galaxy A55 runs on One UI 7, which is based on Android 15. The eventual upgrade to One UI 8 promises enhanced performance, new features, and a refined user interface.
The One UI 8 skin is said to bring further improvements in multitasking, customization, and privacy settings—building upon the strong foundation of Android 16.
Samsung typically prioritizes its flagship models when rolling out new software, and then gradually extends support to mid-range and budget devices. The Galaxy A55’s appearance on Geekbench aligns with this rollout pattern, positioning it as one of the early recipients of Android 16 outside the flagship segment.
With One UI 8 still in the beta phase for premium models, Galaxy A55 users will have to remain patient a while longer. However, this development confirms that Samsung is already working on extending Android 16 support across its broader smartphone portfolio.
