Samsung’s upcoming foldable smartphones may arrive with a powerful new AI safety feature designed to protect users from phone scams. According to a recent report, the next generation of foldables — the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8 and Samsung Galaxy Z Flip8 — are expected to include Scam Detection powered by Google’s Gemini AI right out of the box.
The information reportedly comes from code discovered in the latest beta version of the Phone by Google app. The code references Samsung’s upcoming foldable devices and suggests that the Scam Detection feature could be integrated directly into these phones at launch.
AI Protection Against Phone Scams
Scam Detection is an AI-powered security feature developed using Google Gemini technology. The system analyzes conversations during phone calls in real time to identify patterns commonly associated with fraud attempts.
If the AI detects suspicious activity during a call, it alerts the user, allowing them to end the conversation before sharing sensitive information. With phone scams becoming increasingly common worldwide, the addition of AI-driven protection could provide an extra layer of security for smartphone users.
Possible Expansion Beyond the United States
Currently, Scam Detection is only officially available in the United States. However, reports suggest Samsung may expand the feature to more countries when its new foldable devices launch.
Google has already enabled similar AI-powered scam protection on devices like the Google Pixel 9 and Google Pixel 10 in multiple markets. This raises expectations that Samsung could follow a similar strategy for its upcoming foldables.
New Foldables Expected at July Unpacked Event
Samsung is widely expected to unveil its next generation of foldable smartphones at a dedicated Samsung Galaxy Unpacked event in July. Alongside the Galaxy Z Fold8 and Flip8, rumors also point to a new foldable device currently referred to as the “Wide Fold.” The final commercial name for this model has not yet been confirmed.
If the reports are accurate, Samsung’s upcoming foldables could combine cutting-edge hardware with advanced AI-powered safety features, helping users stay protected from increasingly sophisticated phone scams.
