Despite earlier speculation, Samsung did not unveil a tri-fold smartphone at the recent Galaxy Unpacked event.
However, excitement remains high after Samsung Electronics President TM Roh confirmed that the highly anticipated tri-fold model is still on track for launch before the end of 2025.
Speaking to media last week, TM Roh stated, “We are now focusing on perfecting the product and its usability, but we have not decided its name. As the product nears completion, we are planning to make a final decision soon.”
Leaks suggest that the name “Samsung Galaxy Z TriFold” is being considered. Tech insider Max Jambor mentioned this title as a strong candidate, hinting it could follow Samsung’s existing naming format—possibly debuting as part of the Z7 series, similar to the Z Flip7 FE.
Hints about the new tri-fold device were found in One UI 8, which launched alongside the latest foldables and was first beta-tested on the upcoming Galaxy S25 series. These discoveries further confirm that the tri-fold is nearing completion.
Earlier, Samsung was rumored to call the device “Galaxy G Fold,” a name tied to foldable display prototypes shown at CES 2022. At that event, Samsung showcased its Flex G and Flex S displays, featuring innovative tri-folding mechanics. However, the company may choose to stick with the well-known “Z” series branding to maintain consistency.
Currently, only limited information is available, including the device’s internal code name “Q7M” and model number SM-F968. For comparison, the Galaxy Z Fold7 is referred to internally as Q7 and SM-F966. These clues suggest that the tri-fold device is part of the same premium lineup.
Reports also indicate that the Galaxy Z TriFold will be produced in very limited quantities and may launch exclusively in select countries. As Samsung continues finalizing details, fans worldwide await an official unveiling, which could mark a major leap in foldable smartphone technology.
