Samsung has unveiled its Galaxy Trade-In Program, a revolutionary approach to phone trade-ins. Unlike traditional programs, this initiative allows users to gain value from their old Galaxy devices without requiring the purchase of a new phone.
Initially rolled out in South Korea and France, the program is managed in collaboration with Likewize and is expected to expand to additional markets later this year.
Eligible Devices and Regional Variations
The program currently covers a range of Galaxy smartphones, including the Galaxy S23, S22, S21, and S20 series, as well as the Z Fold5, Fold4, Fold3, Flip5, Flip4, and Flip3 models.
However, Samsung has cautioned that the list of eligible devices may differ by country. Users in South Korea and France can access specific program details through dedicated Galaxy Trade-In Program pages.
How the Program Works
Under this initiative, Samsung evaluates old phones based on their condition, categorizing them as “Excellent,” “Good,” or “Recycle.” Customers are then offered a payout that corresponds to their device’s grade. While the exact amounts for each category have yet to be disclosed, participants can visit the official program pages for an accurate valuation.
The program’s simplicity and flexibility are expected to attract users who want to maximize the residual value of their devices. By offering a secure platform for transactions, Samsung ensures a seamless and reliable experience for participants.
Promoting Sustainability
Jun Kim, EVP and Head of the Galaxy Value Innovation Team at Samsung’s Mobile eXperience Business, highlighted the program’s broader goals: “We’re excited to launch our brand-new year-round Galaxy Trade-In Program in an effort to enrich the value of Galaxy devices for users and contribute to a circular economy. We believe customers can greatly benefit from the value of their devices in the market and the ability to trade-in safely with the support of secure transactions.”
Looking Ahead
The Galaxy Trade-In Program is a step forward in promoting sustainable consumer practices and providing value-added services to Galaxy users. As the initiative expands to new markets, it has the potential to redefine how smartphone trade-ins are approached globally, making it a win-win for both users and the environment.
