Samsung is gearing up to revolutionize the foldable phone market once again, and this time it’s with its highly anticipated tri-fold smartphone.
As a pioneer in foldable technology, Samsung is rumored to unveil its first tri-fold device at the upcoming Galaxy Unpacked event, and fresh leaks have given tech enthusiasts their first look at the innovative design.
According to Android Authority, hidden animation files discovered in the latest One UI 8 build provide detailed insights into Samsung’s tri-fold phone design. The animations reveal a device with three rear panels and two inward-folding hinges—marking a key difference from Huawei’s Mate X series, which folds outward.
Unlike traditional foldables, Samsung’s tri-fold phone will fold from right to left. Interestingly, the hinges on the tri-fold model are of different sizes, a unique engineering decision that could enhance durability and usability. One animation also includes a warning advising users not to fold the right section of the device inward, particularly where the three rear cameras are located, as doing so could damage the display.
A cover screen will be featured at the center of the device when fully unfolded, offering users added functionality even when the main display is open. Within the One UI 8 code, Samsung refers to the device as Multifold 7, though internal reports also mention the name Q7M. The final commercial name remains unconfirmed, but some industry insiders suggest it could debut as the Galaxy G Fold.
Leaks also indicate the device will sport a massive 9.96-inch folding display and a 6.54-inch external cover screen. Despite its impressive size, the tri-fold is expected to weigh around 300 grams. However, availability may initially be limited to the South Korean and Chinese markets.
As anticipation builds for the Galaxy Unpacked event, Samsung’s tri-fold phone is shaping up to be one of the biggest innovations in foldable technology yet.
