Samsung is moving closer to a new era of foldable technology, and fresh footage has now given us the most detailed look yet at the company’s first tri-fold smartphone prototype.
After being briefly showcased behind glass at the 2025 K-Tech Showcase last week, the innovative device has surfaced in a hands-on video shared by SBS News and Omokgyo Electronics, revealing its design and folding mechanism from multiple angles.
The unnamed device — rumored to launch as the Samsung Galaxy Z TriFold — features a dual-hinge setup, allowing the screen to fold in two places. When folded, the dual-hinge system is clearly visible on both sides of the display, with the hinge on the left appearing noticeably wider than the one on the right. This three-panel folding system enables the device to transform from a compact smartphone into a large 10-inch tablet-style device when fully unfolded.
The new video highlights how the cover screen remains on the right side when the device is expanded, while the remaining two screens open to create a seamless extended display. Despite its complex structure, the tri-fold appears surprisingly slim when unfolded — a notable engineering achievement given the multiple layers and hinges involved.
Externally, the prototype features a secondary display on the back, accompanied by a triple-camera setup and LED flash, similar in design to the Galaxy Z Fold7 camera module. The right side houses the power button — which reportedly doubles as a fingerprint scanner — along with volume controls, mirroring Samsung’s current foldable layout.
Samsung has not yet confirmed technical specifications, launch timelines, or final branding for the tri-fold device. However, this latest preview suggests the company is preparing to push foldable smartphone technology to a new level, potentially setting the stage for a major product reveal in 2026.
As foldable devices continue gaining momentum globally, Samsung’s tri-fold innovation could mark the next big leap in mobile design — offering users the versatility of both smartphone and tablet formats in a single device. More details are expected in the coming months as Samsung continues refining its multi-fold display technology.
