Islamabad, August 1, 2025 – Special Assistant to the Prime Minister (SAPM) on Industries and Production, Haroon Akhtar Khan, has called for urgent and comprehensive measures to ensure the safety and quality of vehicles across Pakistan.

Chairing a high-level meeting in Islamabad on Friday with representatives of the Pakistan Automotive Manufacturers Association (PAMA), the SAPM emphasized that the government is fully committed to protecting citizens by improving the quality of both imported and locally assembled vehicles.

The meeting was attended by senior officials including the Secretary of the Ministry of Industries and Production, Mr. Saif Anjum, and the CEO of the Engineering Development Board (EDB). The primary focus was to review current practices and align vehicle manufacturing and importation processes with global safety and environmental standards.

“The lives of our citizens are precious, and ensuring their safety is the government’s top priority,” SAPM Haroon Akhtar Khan stated. He added that all vehicles, regardless of origin, must conform to stringent international safety and emission benchmarks.

He stressed that maintaining high standards not only safeguards human life but also contributes to long-term environmental sustainability. He urged stakeholders to avoid shortcuts and invest in the durability and reliability of vehicles sold in the Pakistani market.

The SAPM directed the EDB to collaborate closely with PAMA and other manufacturers to ensure a smooth and transparent implementation of upgraded vehicle standards. He also highlighted the need for public awareness and compliance checks to guarantee that only safe, roadworthy vehicles reach Pakistani consumers.

This initiative is part of the government’s broader plan to modernize Pakistan’s auto sector and build public confidence in the safety and performance of vehicles.
