Saudi Arabia, Pakistan and Türkiye have signed the Makkah Joint Defence Agreement aimed at strengthening collective security, enhancing defence cooperation and promoting peace and stability in the region.
The agreement was signed during the Makkah Al-Mukarramah Summit for Joint Defence held in Makkah on August 7, 2026, following the visit of Pakistan Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif and Türkiye President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia at the invitation of Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud.
Saudi Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud hosted President Erdoğan and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif at Al-Safa Palace in Makkah, where the leaders reviewed bilateral relations, shared strategic interests and regional security challenges.
The three leaders signed the landmark defence agreement, reaffirming their commitment to strengthening cooperation among the three countries based on longstanding historical ties, mutual trust and shared interests.
Under the agreement, the three nations agreed to enhance collective defence capabilities and strengthen cooperation across various areas of security and defence.
A key provision of the pact states that any armed attack against any one of the three countries will be considered an attack against all three states, reflecting a commitment to collective deterrence against potential aggression.
The agreement aims to further develop defence collaboration between Saudi Arabia, Pakistan and Türkiye while supporting regional peace, security and stability.
