Karachi, September 5, 2025 – The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) has officially declared a bank holiday across the country on Saturday, September 6, 2025, coinciding with 12th Rabi-ul-Awwal, 1447 A.H., in observance of Eid Milad-un-Nabi (Sallallahu Alayhi Wa-Sallam).

In a circular issued on Friday, the SBP notified the presidents and chief executives of all commercial banks, development financial institutions, and microfinance banks (MFBs) that the central bank will remain closed on this important religious occasion. The announcement further clarifies that, as per practice, the holiday will be observed by all branches, ensuring uniformity across Pakistan’s banking network.

Eid Milad-un-Nabi, marking the birth of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him), holds great spiritual and cultural significance in Pakistan. The government, various institutions, and communities organize religious gatherings, processions, and conferences to honor the day. Declaring a bank holiday provides convenience for the public, as employees and customers alike can participate in religious events without banking-related obligations.

The SBP’s decision aligns with the broader government notification regarding public holidays on 12th Rabi-ul-Awwal. Market participants, businesses, and financial service users are advised to plan their transactions accordingly to avoid inconvenience during the holiday.

This holiday not only allows the faithful to take part in celebrations but also reflects the central role of religious harmony in national life. Normal banking operations will resume on Monday, September 8, 2025.
