Karachi, December 22, 2025 — The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) on Monday announced a nationwide bank holiday on December 25, 2025 (Thursday), in observance of Quaid-e-Azam Day and Christmas, in line with the public holiday declared by the Government of Pakistan.
In a circular issued to the Presidents and Chief Executive Officers (CEOs) of all commercial banks, development finance institutions (DFIs) and microfinance banks (MFBs), the SBP confirmed that the central bank, along with all scheduled banks, will remain closed for public dealings on the day. The announcement applies to banking operations across Pakistan, including branches, head offices and regional offices.
December 25 holds national and religious significance, as it marks the birth anniversary of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah, the founder of Pakistan, and is also observed as Christmas by the Christian community. Both occasions are officially recognized as public holidays, with government offices, financial institutions and most private establishments remaining closed.
Despite the closure of physical bank branches, customers will continue to have access to essential digital banking services. ATM networks, mobile banking apps, internet banking platforms and branchless banking services are expected to remain operational, allowing users to withdraw cash, transfer funds and pay utility bills during the holiday.
Banks have advised customers to plan their financial transactions in advance to avoid inconvenience, especially those involving over-the-counter services, cheque clearances or branch-based activities. Normal banking operations are scheduled to resume on Friday, December 26, 2025.
