Karachi, June 3, 2025 — The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) has officially announced its closure schedule in observance of Eid-ul-Adha, confirming that all banking operations will remain suspended from Friday, June 6 to Monday, June 9, 2025.
The decision aligns with the federal government’s notification regarding nationwide Eid-ul-Adha holidays.
In a circular addressed to the presidents and chief executives of all commercial banks, Development Financial Institutions (DFIs), and Microfinance Banks (MFBs), the SBP informed that its offices will stay closed during the four-day Eid-ul-Adha holidays. This announcement ensures uniform observance across Pakistan’s banking sector, giving employees time to celebrate the religious festival with their families.
The SBP’s decision to suspend operations during Eid-ul-Adha is part of a wider government holiday policy that aims to facilitate citizens in performing the traditional rituals associated with the festival, including Eid prayers, animal sacrifice, and community gatherings. The festival falls on the 10th of Zil Hajj and is considered one of the most significant Islamic celebrations worldwide.
Following the SBP’s lead, the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) also confirmed closure from June 6 to June 9. The PSX issued a notice to all Trading Right Entitlement Certificate (TREC) holders, staff, and market participants informing them of the holiday period. The PSX extended Eid greetings in advance, wishing investors and stakeholders a peaceful and blessed celebration.
According to the Cabinet Division’s earlier notification, the Eid-ul-Adha holidays apply to all federal offices and departments, including those operating on both five-day and six-day work weeks. This extended break allows millions of citizens across the country to engage in religious observances and share the joy of Eid with loved ones.
Separately, the Balochistan government has announced Eid-ul-Adha holidays from June 5 to June 8, with official work resuming on Sunday, June 8. This variation reflects the flexibility some provinces have in adjusting holiday schedules based on regional considerations.
With the SBP and other institutions observing the Eid-ul-Adha holidays, public and private sectors alike are preparing for a nationwide pause in business and financial operations to mark this sacred occasion.
