Karachi, November 7, 2025 – The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) has announced that all banks, Development Financial Institutions (DFIs), and Microfinance Banks (MFBs) will remain closed across the country on November 9, 2025, in observance of Allama Iqbal Day.
In an official notification issued to the Presidents and Chief Executives of all financial institutions, the State Bank of Pakistan stated that the central bank itself will also remain closed on Sunday, November 9, 2025, following the government’s declaration of a public holiday to commemorate the birth anniversary of Allama Muhammad Iqbal.
Allama Iqbal, the national poet and philosopher, played a pivotal role in inspiring the idea of a separate homeland for Muslims of the subcontinent. His poetry and vision for self-realization and empowerment continue to guide Pakistan’s national identity and educational philosophy.
The State Bank of Pakistan emphasized that normal banking operations will resume on the next working day after the holiday. Customers are advised to plan their financial transactions accordingly, including online fund transfers, cheque clearances, and other essential services.
The Iqbal Day holiday is observed nationwide to honor the legacy of one of Pakistan’s greatest thinkers and reformers, whose contributions remain deeply rooted in the country’s cultural and intellectual heritage.
