Karachi, March 18, 2025 – The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) has announced the issuance of fresh currency notes in large quantities to facilitate the public ahead of Eid ul Fitr.
The SBP reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring the availability of new currency notes and dismissed claims suggesting otherwise.
In an official statement, the SBP clarified that it continues its long-standing tradition of supplying fresh currency notes to commercial banks before Eid. This initiative enables banks across the country to distribute new currency notes efficiently, ensuring that the public can access them without difficulty.
To date, the SBP has issued Rs 27 billion worth of fresh currency notes in various denominations. These notes have been distributed to 17,000 branches of commercial banks nationwide to meet the high demand during the festive season. The SBP reiterated that it remains fully committed to making fresh currency notes available in an organized and transparent manner.
Furthermore, the SBP has taken measures to ensure a smooth supply of high-quality currency notes through ATMs, allowing people to withdraw new notes conveniently. The central bank assured that necessary arrangements are in place to maintain an uninterrupted supply of fresh currency notes through the automated banking network.
To prevent hoarding and ensure equal distribution of fresh currency notes among the public, the SBP has deployed dedicated cash monitoring teams. These teams are conducting onsite inspections at commercial bank branches to oversee the proper allocation and distribution of fresh currency notes, ensuring compliance with the central bank’s guidelines.
The SBP also advised the public to obtain fresh currency notes only through authorized channels, discouraging any reliance on unauthorized sources. The central bank urged citizens to report any irregularities in the distribution of new currency notes to ensure transparency and accessibility for all.
With these proactive steps, the SBP aims to make fresh currency notes readily available across the country, allowing the public to celebrate Eid ul Fitr with ease and convenience.
