Karachi, May 30, 2025 – In a bid to modernize financial transactions and reduce dependency on physical cash during the high-transaction Eid-ul-Adha season, the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) has unveiled a comprehensive list of designated cattle markets across the country for enabling cashless payments.

The initiative is part of the central bank’s broader “Go Cashless” campaign that began on May 19, 2025, and will run until June 6, 2025.

With thousands of livestock sales expected ahead of Eid-ul-Adha, the SBP campaign aims to promote digital financial inclusion and facilitate secure, convenient, and efficient transactions for buyers and sellers alike. The effort is expected to significantly curb the risks associated with large cash transactions such as theft, counterfeit currency, and transactional errors.

The “Go Cashless” campaign reflects SBP’s commitment to enhancing Pakistan’s digital financial infrastructure. By promoting the use of mobile banking apps, QR codes, and point-of-sale (POS) machines in cattle markets, the central bank is ensuring that livestock transactions, parking fees, food, water, and other market provisions can be paid for seamlessly without the need for cash.

In collaboration with various commercial banks, SBP has activated this campaign in 54 cattle markets across 22 major districts, covering both urban and rural regions. The inclusion of these markets will enable a broad base of citizens to experience the convenience of cashless financial transactions, even in traditionally cash-dominated environments.

Through this push, the SBP not only ensures safer financial practices but also fosters broader adoption of digital banking platforms.

Stakeholders across the cattle trade sector—sellers, buyers, and service providers—are encouraged to leverage this opportunity. Commercial banks involved in the initiative are providing technical assistance, setting up booths, and educating participants about mobile wallets and cashless transactions.

The SBP emphasized that the successful rollout of the “Go Cashless” campaign hinges on public participation and awareness. With Eid-ul-Adha being a peak period for livestock sales, transitioning to cashless payments can enhance overall market efficiency and transparency.

As Pakistan continues its journey toward a more digitized economy, initiatives like these serve as critical milestones. The SBP remains committed to ensuring that every citizen, regardless of geography, has access to safe, innovative, and user-friendly financial solutions.
