SBP launches cashless drive for Eid cattle markets

Karachi, May 20, 2025 – The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) has officially launched a comprehensive nationwide campaign titled “Go Cashless” aimed at promoting digital payments and significantly reducing reliance on cash transactions during the upcoming Eid-ul-Azha festivities.

This important initiative by the SBP reflects its continued commitment to enhancing digital financial inclusion and modernizing payment systems across the country.

The SBP’s “Go Cashless” campaign, inaugurated today and set to continue until Eid night on June 6, 2025, is designed to facilitate seamless and secure digital payment methods in 54 major cattle markets nationwide. The State Bank of Pakistan said these markets traditionally see high volumes of cash-based transactions during Eid-ul-Azha, especially for the purchase of sacrificial animals.

Building on the momentum from last year’s successful efforts to digitalize market payments, the SBP is intensifying its push to broaden the adoption of cashless solutions. Through collaboration with banks and financial institutions, the campaign initiated by the State Bank of Pakistan encourages both buyers and sellers to embrace digital wallets, branchless banking, and merchant accounts, making transactions safer, faster, and more transparent.

The SBP has also temporarily raised transaction limits from May 19 to June 15, 2025, to accommodate higher transaction volumes during this period. For instance, branchless banking Level-1 accounts, The State Bank of Pakistan said Asaan Account/Asaan Digital Account, and merchant accounts now have no daily transaction limits, and monthly limits have been increased up to PKR 5 million, enabling smoother cashless payments for animal purchases, feed, water, parking, and other essential services.

The public is urged to participate actively in the SBP’s “Go Cashless” campaign, which not only supports hassle-free and secure payments but also contributes to building a more inclusive and efficient financial ecosystem in Pakistan. By going cashless this Eid-ul-Azha, Pakistanis can embrace a modern financial future championed by the SBP.
