SBP makes SMEConnect mandatory for business financing from November 1

Small and medium enterprises will have to submit financing applications through the centralised digital platform, which also enables real-time tracking.

Karachi, October 29, 2026: The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) has announced that all financing applications from small and medium enterprises (SMEs) must be submitted exclusively through its SMEConnect digital platform from November 1, 2026.

The centralised platform has been launched to simplify access to financing for SMEs across Pakistan by providing a single digital channel for applying for loans from banks and development finance institutions (DFIs).

According to the SBP, SMEConnect aims to improve the accessibility, efficiency and transparency of the financing process.

The platform will allow applicants to track the status of their financing applications in real time. In cases where applications are rejected, applicants will also be able to view the reasons for the decision.

SMEConnect features a live dashboard that will give the SBP real-time visibility into financing applications across individual banks and DFIs, as well as the overall industry.

The dashboard will provide data on applications received, processed, approved, disbursed and rejected, enabling the central bank to monitor the performance of SME financing more effectively.

From November 1, applicants visiting bank or DFI branches, or accessing their websites to apply for SME financing, will be directed to SMEConnect.

The SBP has instructed banks and DFIs to prominently display the platform’s link on their websites to ensure easy access. Financial institutions have also been advised to train their SME teams and field staff to guide applicants through the process.

A tutorial video is available on the portal to help businesses submit their financing applications.

The initiative reflects the SBP’s efforts to promote financial inclusion, support entrepreneurship and strengthen SME financing to encourage inclusive economic growth.
