Scarlett Johansson has officially addressed the persistent rumors about her possible return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), setting the record straight about Black Widow’s fate in the franchise.

The 40-year-old actress, who portrayed Natasha Romanoff across multiple Marvel blockbusters, clarified her stance in a recent interview alongside her Black Widow co-star David Harbour.

Though Scarlett Johansson’s character met a heroic end in Avengers: Endgame and had a solo send-off in Black Widow, fan speculation continues—especially amid reports that Robert Downey Jr. may reprise his role as Iron Man despite his on-screen death.

During their chat, Harbour jokingly hinted at Johansson’s return, saying, “We all know Black Widow comes back from the dead.” Johansson, however, didn’t entertain the idea and gave a sharp response rooted in the MCU’s storyline.

“If I come back, half the world dies. Did you not watch Endgame?” she said, referencing the film’s pivotal sacrifice that brought her character’s arc to a close.

While Scarlett Johansson admitted she misses her Marvel castmates and the deep camaraderie they shared, she emphasized the importance of narrative closure for her character. “It’s important for fans to have that closure,” she explained. “Her story is complete, and I don’t want to undo that.”

The actress also appears to be moving forward creatively. Johansson recently made her directorial debut with Eleanor the Great, a film that premiered at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival, signaling a new chapter in her career beyond superhero roles.

Though fans may still hold out hope for a surprise multiverse twist, Scarlett Johansson’s comments make it clear: Natasha Romanoff’s story has ended, and she’s ready to explore new horizons.
