Islamabad, March 26, 2025 – The Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (Suparco) has predicted that Eid-ul-Fitr in Pakistan is expected to fall on Monday, March 31, 2025. The forecast is based on detailed astronomical calculations and scientific assessments regarding the visibility of the Shawwal 1446 AH crescent.
According to Suparco, the chances of sighting the Shawwal moon on March 30, 2025, are strong, making it highly probable that Ramadan will last 29 days. If confirmed, Eid-ul-Fitr will be observed across Pakistan on March 31, marking the end of the holy month of fasting.
Scientific Analysis of Crescent Sighting on March 30, 2025
• Moon Age at Sunset: Approximately 27 hours
• Moon-Sun Angular Separation: About 16 degrees
• Moon Altitude at Sunset: Around 14 degrees
• Illumination: 2%
• Crescent Visibility Probability: The crescent will be clearly visible to the naked eye.
These calculations indicate that the crescent will be easily visible in Pakistan, reinforcing the likelihood of Eid-ul-Fitr celebrations on March 31, 2025.
Meanwhile, in Saudi Arabia, the chances of moon sighting on March 29, 2025, are minimal due to the crescent’s young age of approximately five hours at sunset in Mecca. As a result, Saudi Arabia and the Middle East are also expected to observe Eid-ul-Fitr on March 31, 2025, following their moon sighting on March 30.
Despite strong scientific evidence supporting the moon’s visibility, the official announcement for Eid-ul-Fitr in Pakistan will be made by the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee. The committee will gather testimonies from different regions of the country and assess local weather conditions before confirming the start of Shawwal 1446 AH.
With Eid-ul-Fitr drawing near, Pakistani families are eagerly preparing for the festivities, shopping for new clothes, sweets, and gifts. As anticipation builds, the nation awaits the official moon sighting confirmation, which will mark the joyous occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr.
