Kathryn Bryce’s explosive knock powers Scotland to a convincing DLS victory over Pakistan ahead of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026
As preparations for the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 gather pace, Scotland delivered another statement performance by defeating Pakistan by 41 runs via the DLS method in a warm-up clash held in Derby on Tuesday.
The victory marked Scotland’s second consecutive win in the tournament warm-up fixtures and highlighted their growing confidence ahead of the global event, which begins on June 12 across seven venues in England.
After being asked to bat first, Scotland started cautiously as Pakistan’s bowlers maintained tight control during the powerplay. The Scottish side reached 41 without loss in the opening six overs, with Pakistan initially appearing to have the upper hand.
The breakthrough finally arrived when left-arm spinner Sadia Iqbal dismissed Katherine Fraser shortly after the first drinks break.
However, the turning point of the match came moments later when Scotland captain Kathryn Bryce was handed a lifeline after a dropped caught-and-bowled opportunity while she was on just six runs.
Pakistan paid heavily for that missed chance.
Bryce unleashed an extraordinary counterattack, producing one of the standout innings of the warm-up campaign.
The Scottish skipper hammered 94 runs from only 43 deliveries, smashing 11 boundaries and three sixes. Her aggressive batting completely shifted momentum in Scotland’s favor and propelled the team to an imposing total of 191/5.
The final stages of the innings proved particularly damaging for Pakistan, with Scotland collecting 50 runs in the last three overs.
Despite wickets from Tasmia Rubab, Sadia Iqbal, and Ayesha Zafar, Pakistan struggled with fielding lapses and missed opportunities that allowed Scotland to capitalize.
Chasing a challenging target, Pakistan never found rhythm with the bat. Scotland’s bowling attack struck early, with Rachel Slater removing two batters in quick succession. Pakistan slumped to 45/3 during the powerplay and later slipped to 62/5.
Captain Fatima Sana remained unbeaten on 12, but persistent rain interrupted play and eventually ended Pakistan’s hopes of a comeback. With no further action possible, Scotland were declared winners by the DLS method.
Can Scotland carry this impressive momentum into the main tournament? Their recent performances suggest they could emerge as one of the surprise packages of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026.
