Australian fast bowler Scott Boland continued to rise as a key figure in Test cricket with another exceptional performance in the third Test against the West Indies at Sabina Park.
His efforts further strengthened Australia’s position in the match and added another milestone to his rapidly growing list of accomplishments.
Boland recorded impressive bowling figures of 3 for 34 in the West Indies’ first innings, which pushed his Test bowling average to an astonishing 17.33. This placed him as the most effective Test bowler of the past 110 years among those who have bowled at least 2,000 deliveries.
His record now sits behind only England’s Syd Barnes from the early 20th century, with the remaining bowlers ranked above him belonging largely to the pre-1900s era. His consistency, ability to extract movement, and mastery of line and length have earned him wide recognition across the cricketing world.
Australia, after managing a modest first-innings total of 225, turned the match around with the help of their potent pace attack. Boland led the charge as the West Indies were bowled out for just 143.
His precise bowling proved too difficult for the hosts, as he removed opener John Campbell, who had shown some resistance with 36 runs, by trapping him leg-before with a delivery that nipped back sharply.
Boland followed up by dismissing Shai Hope for 23 using a cleverly angled seam delivery, before returning to clean up the tail by bowling Shamar Joseph, completing a commanding spell.
Despite Australia’s advantage, the West Indies showed resilience later on Day 2, reducing the visitors to six wickets down before stumps.
Australia’s lead remained under 200 runs at the close of play, setting up a crucial Day 3. The contest now hinges on whether Australia can build a defendable total or if the West Indies can engineer a comeback.
Boland’s performance in Jamaica has reinforced his value to the Australian Test squad. His ability to deliver under pressure and maintain remarkable consistency continues to make headlines, and his dominance with the pink ball has made him one of the most exciting bowlers in the modern era.
