Selena Gomez has directly addressed ongoing fan questions about noticeable changes in her voice, offering a calm and transparent explanation during a recent Instagram Live session. The singer and actress spoke candidly to followers, making it clear there is no dramatic or alarming reason behind the shift.

The 33-year-old Only Murders in the Building star went live on Tuesday, December 16, where she responded to comments circulating online about her voice sounding different in recent appearances. According to fan-recorded clips from the livestream, Gomez dismissed speculation and reassured fans with her signature honesty.

“There’s no excuse, I don’t really care,” Gomez said during the session. “I think my point is that sometimes things happen. I get weird [or] my throat swells from the inside sometimes. That’s all.”

Gomez has long been open about her health journey, particularly her diagnosis with lupus, an autoimmune disease she publicly revealed several years ago. In a 2015 interview with Billboard, she detailed the seriousness of her condition and how it affected her career and personal life.

“I was diagnosed with lupus, and I’ve been through chemotherapy,” Gomez said at the time. “That’s what my break [from the spotlight] was really about… I locked myself away until I was confident and comfortable again.”

During the same Instagram Live this week, Gomez also addressed comments about her appearance, specifically questions regarding facial hair. Appearing makeup-free, she later shared a clip to her Instagram Stories and explained that a fan’s question had made her laugh.

“Someone made me laugh because they asked me, ‘How do you shave your mustache?’” she said, clarifying that what viewers may be noticing is not hair at all. “It’s my melasma.”

Gomez explained that melasma is a skin condition that causes darker patches on the face and is often triggered by sun exposure or hormonal changes. She added that while she treats and manages it, the condition is still visible at times.

“I take care of it and treat it, but yeah, it’s there,” she said, encouraging fans to wear sunscreen and be mindful of sun exposure. “I totally get it. It’s from the sun.”

By openly addressing both her voice changes and appearance, Gomez once again reinforced her reputation for authenticity and transparency. Rather than offering excuses, she emphasized acceptance, reminding fans that health fluctuates and bodies naturally change over time.

Her message resonated with many followers as a grounded reminder that even global stars experience the same physical realities as everyone else — and that sometimes, the simplest explanation is the real one.
