Karachi, May 13, 2025 — The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued a heatwave alert, warning that several districts of Sindh will experience intense heat over the coming days.
According to the latest weather update, PMD predicts mainly hot and dry weather for most parts of the Sindh province, with temperatures expected to rise sharply, particularly during the daytime on Wednesday, May 14, 2025.
The PMD highlighted that very hot conditions will prevail across southern Sindh, urging residents to take necessary precautions against heat-related health risks. Areas such as Dadu, Larkana, Jacobabad, Rohri, and Khairpur have already recorded temperatures as high as 44 to 45°C, with further increases likely midweek.
For Tuesday night, the PMD expects continued hot and dry conditions across the majority of Sindh. However, there remains a slight chance of rain, accompanied by wind and thunderstorm activity, in a few isolated locations. Districts such as Mithi, Chhor, Khairpur, Jamshoro, Naushahro Feroze, and surrounding areas could receive light rainfall, though these occurrences are expected to be brief and localized.
On the national scale, the PMD reported that a continental air mass is dominating weather patterns across Pakistan. This is contributing to widespread dry and hot conditions. On Tuesday, most areas of the country, including Punjab, Balochistan, and southern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, experienced hot weather, while light showers were reported in Gilgit-Baltistan, Kashmir, and upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Looking ahead to Wednesday, the PMD forecast indicates that hot and dry weather will persist in most regions. However, the southern plains — including large parts of Sindh — are likely to face particularly intense daytime heat.
In the past 24 hours, the highest temperatures recorded included Dadu, Sibbi, and Turbat at 45°C, followed by 44°C in Rohri, Khairpur, Shaheed Benazirabad, Jacobabad, and Larkana — all major districts within Sindh province.
The PMD advises the public, especially in Sindh, to stay hydrated, avoid unnecessary outdoor exposure during peak hours, and follow official health guidelines as the heatwave intensifies in the region.
