Bollywood actor Shah Rukh Khan led tributes to legendary playback singer Asha Bhosle following her death at the age of 92, describing her voice as one of the “pillars of Indian cinema.”
In a statement posted on Instagram, Khan said he was deeply saddened by the passing of Asha Bhosle, affectionately known as “Asha Tai,” and praised her lasting influence on Indian film music.
“Her voice has been one of the pillars of Indian cinema and will continue to resonate the world over for centuries to come,” he wrote. “A talent that will outlive many… I will miss her. Rest in peace Asha Tai.”
Bhosle, who reportedly died after being hospitalised following a cardiac arrest, leaves behind a vast musical legacy spanning thousands of songs across multiple languages and genres.
Tributes also poured in from across India’s entertainment industry. Actress Hema Malini said she had an emotional connection with Bhosle, noting that the singer’s “unique voice and style” helped make many of her songs iconic.
Filmmaker Karan Johar also honoured the singer, calling her musical journey extraordinary and saying her work would continue to inspire future generations.
Asha Bhosle carved a distinct identity in Indian music alongside her sister Lata Mangeshkar, who passed away in 2022. Together, they are widely regarded as two of the most influential voices in Bollywood history.
Some of Bhosle’s most popular songs include “Dum Maro Dum,” “Piya Tu Ab To Aaja,” “Le Gayi,” and “Sharara,” which remain enduring classics in Indian cinema.
Her death marks the end of an era in South Asian music, with fans and artists continuing to celebrate her unparalleled contribution to film and music culture.
