Islamabad, August 26, 2025 – Syed Shakeel Shah, a BS-21 officer of the Pakistan Customs Service (PCS), has officially assumed the position of Member Customs Operations, according to a notification issued on Tuesday.
The appointment took effect from August 25, 2025, marking a significant addition to the Federal Board of Revenue’s (FBR) senior leadership team.
The FBR had earlier announced, on August 22, 2025, the appointment of Shakeel Shah to this key role. He succeeds Wajid Ali, a BS-22 officer of PCS, who has been transferred and posted as Chief Collector of Customs Appraisement (South), Karachi. Ali, known for his long-standing service, previously held the Member Customs Operations post and is regarded as one of the department’s senior-most officers.
Sources within Pakistan Customs highlighted that Shakeel Shah brings extensive operational experience to his new assignment. His expertise in customs administration, tax revenue mobilization, and anti-smuggling measures is expected to contribute to improved performance in the sector.
Officials also noted that the government’s decision to appoint Shakeel Shah reflects its commitment to combating smuggling, curbing under-invoicing, and ensuring accurate goods declaration at all entry and exit points. Strengthening border controls and improving trade facilitation are seen as key priorities under his leadership.
The customs fraternity expects that his tenure will focus on both enhancing compliance and boosting revenue collection, aligning with broader fiscal and trade policy reforms.
