Global pop icon Shakira is marking a major milestone in her career as she receives her first-ever nomination for the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. The Grammy-winning singer described the honor as both “humbling” and “surreal” in an interview with the Associated Press.
“I feel really humbled and excited at the same time,” Shakira said. “It’s incredible to be nominated for the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and a little bit surreal as well.”
Although widely recognized for pop hits like Hips Don’t Lie and She Wolf, Shakira emphasized that rock music has always been a core part of her artistic identity. She began her career in rock and has continued to weave its influence into her music over the years. Albums such as Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran, Tiempo Sin Verte, and Cómo Dónde y Cuándo showcase these rock influences.
“Rock music is an intricate part of my artistic persona,” Shakira explained. “Everything that I listen to is rock music. To be nominated for the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, alongside so many incredible icons who inspired me, like The Rolling Stones, is truly a privilege and an amazing moment in my career.”
The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame’s Class of 2026 will be announced in April, cementing this moment as a landmark achievement in Shakira’s decades-long, genre-blending career.
