Colombian superstar Shakira has teased what she described as a “pretty historic” halftime show for the 2026 FIFA World Cup final, promising a performance unlike her appearance at the tournament’s opening ceremony.
Speaking during an appearance on The Capital Evening Show with Jimmy Hill on July 8, the Grammy-winning singer said she is preparing a special performance for the final, which will take place on July 19.
Shakira promises unique World Cup final performance
Shakira said returning for the tournament’s finale carries special significance after previously performing at the opening ceremony.
“I played at the inauguration, and now I’m playing at the final,” she said.
“I’ve got to wrap my head around it, make it a little different from what I did at the inauguration.”
The singer added that the performance would feature several major artists.
“It’s going to be a shared halftime show,” she said. “It’s going to be pretty historic, five amazing artists. Well, four amazing artists plus me.”
Chris Martin could join performance
Shakira also expressed hope that Coldplay frontman Chris Martin, who is curating the halftime show, will perform on stage.
“I really hope that Chris Martin is going to be singing too,” she said.
“We’ll all get together and we’ll all figure it out how it’s gonna be, but I’m really curious. I’m as curious as you are right now!”
Star-studded lineup confirmed
Her comments came after FIFA and Global Citizen announced that Justin Bieber, Madonna, BTS and Shakira will headline the inaugural FIFA World Cup final halftime show, with Chris Martin overseeing the 11-minute production.
The performance will mark the first halftime entertainment staged during a FIFA World Cup final.
Shakira celebrates chart success
Ahead of the final, Shakira is also celebrating a chart milestone.
Her collaboration with Burna Boy, Dai Dai (FIFA World Cup Official Song 2026), recently spent a second consecutive week at No. 1 on the Billboard Global Exclusive U.S. chart, becoming the first official FIFA World Cup anthem to top the ranking.
Shakira previously became synonymous with the tournament after recording Waka Waka (This Time for Africa), the official song of the 2010 FIFA World Cup, which remains one of the competition’s most successful anthems.
