Islamabad, January 12, 2025 – The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecasted shallow fog during the night in Islamabad, as cold and dry weather continues to dominate the capital and its surrounding regions.
Residents of Islamabad should prepare for a crisp and chilly evening, with visibility potentially reduced by the expected fog.
According to the PMD’s latest bulletin, Islamabad and its neighboring areas will experience cold and dry weather conditions throughout the day on Sunday, January 12, 2025. However, as night falls, shallow fog is likely to develop, creating cooler and more challenging conditions for late-night commuters. This weather pattern is expected to persist into Monday morning, with foggy conditions predicted during both morning and night hours on January 13, 2025.
National Weather Overview
At the national level, a prevailing continental air mass continues to influence most parts of Pakistan, leading to widespread cold and dry weather. The PMD has highlighted that hilly areas will experience very cold conditions, particularly during the nighttime. In contrast, plain areas, including parts of Punjab, are expected to see moderate to dense fog patches, impacting visibility during night and morning hours.
Sunday Forecast
For Sunday, the weather in most parts of the country will remain predominantly cold and dry. However, hilly regions such as Kashmir, Murree, and Galiyat may witness partly cloudy skies. Moderate to dense fog is anticipated in the plain areas of Punjab, particularly at night. Islamabad, situated close to these regions, is also expected to experience cooler conditions and reduced visibility due to shallow fog.
Monday Forecast
On Monday, January 13, 2025, the weather will largely mirror Sunday’s pattern. Islamabad will remain cold and dry, with shallow fog expected to linger during the morning and night hours. Other plain areas in Punjab will also see patches of moderate to dense fog.
Recent Weather Observations
Over the past 24 hours, cold and dry weather prevailed across most of Pakistan, with isolated rainfall reported in eastern and northeastern Punjab. Some areas in Punjab, such as Okara and Narowal, recorded significant rainfall at 12mm and 11mm, respectively. Meanwhile, temperatures dropped to extreme lows in hilly regions, with Leh, Astore, and Skardu recording a chilling -10°C.
As Islamabad braces for a foggy evening, residents are advised to drive cautiously and remain prepared for colder nights ahead. The shallow fog might not significantly disrupt daily activities but could pose challenges for late-night travelers.
