Dubai, September 21, 2025 – India continued their dominance in the Asia Cup 2025 with a solid six-wicket victory over Pakistan in the Super Four clash at the Dubai International Stadium on Sunday. The chase of 171 was made to look easy thanks to the blistering batting display by Abhishek Sharma and Shubman Gill.
Sharma, who smashed 74 runs off just 39 balls, set the tone from the very first delivery, launching a six to put Pakistan on the back foot. Alongside Gill, who contributed a brisk 47 from 28 balls, the pair stitched a 100-plus partnership in quick time. Their fearless approach in the Powerplay, scoring 69 runs, gave India complete control of the chase.
Although Gill fell just three runs short of his fifty soon after the drinks break, India’s momentum was hardly dented. Pakistan briefly tried to claw back when Faheem Ashraf dismissed Gill and followed it up with another wicket. Yet, Sharma kept the scoreboard ticking with boundaries and ensured India stayed well ahead of the asking rate.
Sharma’s dismissal with under 50 runs needed gave Pakistan a faint glimmer of hope. Sanju Samson and Tilak Varma added 25 runs, though Samson struggled for fluency and eventually departed. Varma, however, steadied nerves with an unbeaten 30 from 19 balls, sealing the victory with a boundary.
This win marks India’s highest successful chase against Pakistan in T20 internationals. More importantly, it extends India’s unbeaten run in the 2025 Asia Cup and highlights their strong start in the Super Four stage. Pakistan, despite posting a competitive total, will rue their inconsistent bowling and missed opportunities.
