Shipping Activity Report at Port Qasim for October 2, 2024

Karachi, October 2, 2024 – The Port Qasim Authority (PQA) has released its shipping activity report for Wednesday, October 2, 2024, detailing recent developments and facilitating stakeholders involved in maritime operations.

On Tuesday, five ships arrived at various terminals within Port Qasim, including Maersk Kinloss, Phoenician-M, Clipper Trent, Ice Fighter, and Acadia Park. These vessels are scheduled to load and offload a range of cargo, including containers, rice, fuel oil, and chemicals, at the Qasim International Container Terminal, Multi-Purpose Terminals, FOTCO Oil Terminal, and Engro Vopak Terminal, respectively.

In addition to these operations, two more vessels, Centurion Signifer and Al-Areesh, have anchored at the outer port, carrying coal and liquefied natural gas (LNG). This influx highlights the port’s vital role in facilitating the movement of essential commodities.

During the last 24 hours, a total of eight ships were engaged at PQA berths. Among these, MSC Positano, Maersk Kinloss, and Ice Fighter are anticipated to set sail today. This consistent shipping activity underscores Port Qasim’s significance as a key maritime hub in the region.

The cargo volume handled at the port during this period was substantial, totaling 95,743 tonnes. This comprised 41,664 tonnes of import cargo and 54,079 tonnes of export cargo, all carried across 3,919 containers (1,800 TEUs for imports and 2,119 TEUs for exports). Such figures reflect the port’s dynamic capacity and operational efficiency in managing diverse cargo types.

Currently, there are nine ships anchored at the outer anchorage of Port Qasim. Among these, three vessels—Khairpur, Al-Areesh, and Centurion—along with another ship, Maersk Cabo Verde, which is carrying gasoline, LNG, and coal, are expected to dock at FOTCO, PGPCL, PIBT, and QICT today. Furthermore, a container ship named Hyundai Hong-Kong is scheduled to arrive at the port on Thursday, October 3, indicating ongoing robust shipping activities.

In summary, the shipping activity at Port Qasim reflects a vibrant maritime landscape, with multiple vessels engaged in crucial loading and unloading operations. The continuous flow of cargo and the arrival of new ships demonstrate the port’s importance in supporting both local and international trade, reinforcing its status as a pivotal economic asset for Pakistan. Stakeholders will be keenly monitoring these developments as they unfold in the coming days.
