Karachi, December 13, 2024 – Shipping operations at Karachi Port Trust (KPT) and Port Qasim Authority (PQA) continued smoothly over the past 24 hours, ensuring efficient handling of cargo for stakeholders.
At the Karachi Port Trust, a total of 131,647 tonnes of cargo was managed, including 69,840 tonnes of imports and 61,807 tonnes of exports. The import cargo comprised 32,780 tonnes of containerized cargo, 9,637 tonnes of bulk cargo, 2,424 tonnes of chickpeas, 2,199 tonnes of soybean seeds, and 22,800 tonnes of liquid cargo. Meanwhile, the export cargo consisted of 53,936 tonnes of containerized cargo, 100 tonnes of bulk cargo, 2,700 tonnes of brite ore, 2,571 tonnes of rice, and 2,500 tonnes of liquid cargo.
Six vessels—Nour Elhuda, Princess Masa, Wisdom Star, TG Crab, MT Shalamar, and Xin Chang Shu—berthed at Karachi Port during this period. Additionally, seven vessels—X-Press Anglesey, MT Sargodha, OOCL Nagoya, Kota Lestari, CMA CGM Titus, and Independent Spirit—departed from the port, marking a consistent flow of shipping traffic.
At Port Qasim, a total cargo volume of 203,740 tonnes was handled, comprising 170,759 tonnes of imports and 32,981 tonnes of exports. This included 4,235 containers (2,959 TEUs for imports and 1,276 TEUs for exports). Notably, 13 ships were engaged at PQA berths during the last 24 hours. Three vessels—Maersk Cairo, CMA CGM La Scala, and Gaschem Warnow—departed the port on Thursday morning, while four more—Neva, Iolaos, SM Navigator, and Spar Octans—were scheduled to sail later in the day.
Nineteen ships remained at the outer anchorage of Port Qasim. Among them, four vessels—Split, DM Condor, Maran Gas Efessos, and GFS Ruby—as well as another ship, Teno, carrying soybean seed, chemicals, LNG, and containers, were expected to berth at facilities including FAP, EVTL, PGPCL, and QICT on Thursday, December 12. Furthermore, a container ship, MSC Positano, is slated to arrive at the port on Friday, December 13, 2024.
These developments highlight the robust operational capabilities of Karachi and Qasim ports in supporting Pakistan’s trade and economic activities.
