Shoaib Akhtar, Pakistan’s legendary pacer, has expressed strong confidence in Bangladesh’s potential at the upcoming ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026, highlighting the team’s emerging pace attack as a key factor in their success.

Marking his first involvement in the T20 franchise circuit, Akhtar has joined Dhaka Capitals as a mentor in the Bangladesh Premier League, aiming to nurture the next generation of fast bowlers. He believes his expertise can help Bangladesh’s pace unit compete effectively on the global stage as they prepare for the World Cup in India and Sri Lanka.

“I hope Bangladesh become a force in the coming World Cup,” Akhtar said. “I want them to be one of the greatest teams to reckon with. This is one of the most exciting national teams, and I hope they go far and climb up the ladder to win the World Cup.”

Akhtar has focused on Bangladesh’s emerging fast bowlers, praising Taskin Ahmed and expressing his wish to see the seamer surpass his own speed record. He also provided advice to Nahid Rana, the country’s fastest bowler, stressing the importance of physical conditioning, training techniques, and a winning mindset. “Fast bowling is about taking stress on the body,” he said. “If he trains properly and maintains the right attitude, he can go far.”

While eager to share his experience, Akhtar also acknowledged the contribution of Bangladesh’s bowling coach Shaun Tait. “Shaun Tait is one of the best coaches when it comes to fast bowling. He’s honest and fantastic,” he said.

Bangladesh recently defeated Ireland 2-1 in their final T20I series of the year. In the T20 World Cup 2026, they have been placed in Group B alongside England, West Indies, Nepal, and Italy, with their campaign starting against West Indies on February 7 in Kolkata.

Shoaib Akhtar’s mentorship and support could play a pivotal role in strengthening Bangladesh’s pace attack ahead of the high-stakes tournament.
