Canadian actor Simu Liu, who rose to global fame as Shang-Chi in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings (2021), has expressed his enthusiasm about continuing the Marvel franchise for as long as possible.
In a recent interview with ComicBook.com, the 36-year-old star said he would love to reprise his role in multiple sequels, stating, “I would keep doing Shang-Chi sequels as long as I physically could.”
Liu, who made history as the first Asian superhero to lead a Marvel film, admitted that working alongside long-time Marvel veterans can feel daunting. “I was just in quite a large Marvel movie with a lot of these actors, some of whom have been playing the same role for over 20 years,” he said. “I’m stepping into their world… and it’s everything I can do just to stop myself from shaking.”
Despite the nerves, the Barbie actor revealed how he manages to overcome self-doubt and stay grounded. “The thought that powers me is this: you’ve still got to show up and do your best. Impostor syndrome can’t be an excuse not to try,” Liu explained.
He added, “If you stop thinking about yourself for a moment and focus on the work — on the character’s objective — it becomes easier. Maybe in 40 years, someone else will look at me and say, ‘What I would give to do work like that.’”
Liu’s comments have reignited fan excitement about a potential Shang-Chi 2, though Marvel Studios has yet to announce an official release date.
