Sindh Allocates Rs690 Billion for Annual Development Plan (ADP) 2023-24

Karachi, June 10, 2023: The Sindh province has allocated approximately Rs690 billion for the upcoming fiscal year 2023-24, as announced by the Sindh Chief Minister during the budget presentation on Saturday.

The budget estimates for development expenditure for the financial year 2023-24 propose a total of Rs689.603 billion. This includes Rs380.5 billion for the Provincial Annual Development Plan (ADP), Rs30.0 billion for the district ADP, Rs266.691 billion for Foreign Projects Assistance, and Rs22.912 billion for federal Public Sector Development Program (PSDP) schemes executed by the Sindh Government.

The provincial development portfolio for the year 2023-24 encompasses a total of 5,248 schemes, consisting of 3,311 ongoing schemes with a budget provision of Rs291.727 billion and 1,937 new schemes with a provision of Rs88.273 billion. The focus is primarily on the completion of ongoing schemes, for which 80% of the budget has been allocated.

The increase in the size of foreign-assisted projects is attributed to the initiation of new projects aimed at rehabilitating and reconstructing flood-damaged infrastructure.

In the next year’s budget, a significant amount of Rs34.69 billion has been allocated for development projects in the Education Sector. Similarly, a substantial sum of Rs19.739 billion has been reserved for schemes related to Health Services, while Rs11.517 billion has been allocated for development projects under the Home department. The Irrigation sector will receive Rs25.0 billion for its development activities in the coming year.

A considerable allocation of Rs62.5 billion has been made for development under local governments, housing, and town planning projects. Additionally, a provision of Rs24.35 billion will be available for projects in public health engineering and rural development. Furthermore, the development portfolio for government buildings and the road network under works and services will amount to Rs89.05 billion.

The allocation of such substantial funds for various sectors underscores the government’s commitment to infrastructure development, education, healthcare, and the overall progress of the province.
