Karachi, December 23, 2025 — The Sindh government has announced a public holiday on December 27 to mark the 18th death anniversary of former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto.
According to an official notification issued by the Services, General Administration and Coordination Department, all offices, autonomous and semi-autonomous bodies, corporations and local councils operating under the administrative control of the Government of Sindh will remain closed on the day. However, essential services will continue to function as usual.
The announcement means Sindh residents will observe two public holidays in the same week. Earlier, December 25 (Thursday) was declared a public holiday across Pakistan on the occasion of Quaid-e-Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah’s birth anniversary, which also coincides with Christmas.
Benazir Bhutto, Pakistan’s first woman prime minister, was assassinated on December 27, 2007, during a public rally at Liaquat Bagh in Rawalpindi. Her death marked one of the most tragic moments in the country’s political history and is commemorated annually by the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and her supporters.
Each year, the Sindh government observes a public holiday on her death anniversary in recognition of her political legacy and contributions to democracy in Pakistan. Various memorial events, gatherings and tributes are expected to take place across the province to honour her memory.
The notification advises government offices and institutions to make necessary arrangements in advance to ensure continuity of essential public services during the holiday period.
