Sindh government announces relief package for Gul Plaza fire victims

Karachi, January 19, 2026 – The Sindh government on Monday announced a monetary relief package for the victims and families affected by the deadly Gul Plaza fire in Karachi, aiming to provide immediate financial support and assist in the rehabilitation of affected traders and businesses.

Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah announced financial compensation of Rs10 million for each deceased individual, along with additional measures to help shopkeepers and businesses resume operations following the devastating blaze. The relief package is intended to support families who lost their loved ones and to ease the economic impact on the local business community.

The announcement was welcomed by the Korangi Association of Trade and Industry (KATI). KATI President Muhammad Ikram Rajput and Acting Patron-in-Chief Zubair Chhaya termed the government’s initiative timely and commendable, stressing that swift assistance is crucial for the relief and rehabilitation of affected families. They appreciated the compensation package and the Sindh government’s commitment to restoring commercial activity in the area.

Expressing deep grief over the tragedy, KATI leaders emphasized the urgent need to strengthen fire safety and emergency response systems in commercial and industrial buildings. They called for strict enforcement of fire safety regulations, regular safety audits, and improved coordination among relevant institutions to prevent similar incidents in the future.

KATI also urged the institutionalization of fire safety awareness programs, training sessions, and emergency drills, and called for effective implementation of KMC fire safety audit reports across Karachi.

The association paid tribute to the firefighter who lost his life during rescue operations, describing him as a national hero, and welcomed the decision to award him a high civil honor. KATI offered prayers for the deceased and expressed solidarity with the affected families, wishing a speedy recovery to the injured.
